Some good news here. It looks like the Lab has committed to
continuing the run -- that is great!
Still a lot of unknowns (when we start, how long we can run, etc),
but it looks like we're a "go". Stay tuned for more details.
All the best,

SUBJECT: Jefferson Lab Status Update - May 7, 2020

Dear Colleagues,
On Monday, May 4, Governor Northam extended certain restrictions on
businesses and gatherings through Thursday, May 14. He also indicated that
the Commonwealth of Virginia, subject to continued improvement in various
public health metrics, will likely proceed to Phase 1 of easing restrictions
on Friday, May 15. I realize that this announcement has likely raised
questions regarding Jefferson Lab's timeline for resuming on-site
operations.
While we have been developing our plans over the last several weeks, the
Governor's announcement provides the first indication of the general
timeframe in which we would seek to begin restoring on-site operations at
Jefferson Lab. We will be in a position to share those plans, including more
detailed timelines, with supervisors, staff and the lab community next
week. Likewise, we will be sharing our plans with the Department of Energy,
who may provide additional guidance.
I want to emphasize that restoring on-site operations at Jefferson Lab will
be a complicated, multi-step process carried out over a period of time, with
an emphasis on the safety of our staff, Users and subcontractors. In the
initial phase, consistent with a reduction in the threat level to MEDCON 5,
a limited number of the lab community will be called back to on-site work,
with the majority continuing to work remotely. Staff, Users and
subcontractors will be instructed how and when they may return to the
lab. After an initial re-orientation period, we will slowly and deliberately
begin restoring on-site operations in the highest priority roles. We have
decided to resume CEBAF operations this summer to complete the physics run
that was interrupted in late March.
Resuming on-site operations has many complexities and requires considerable
planning, communication and preparation. We are working through those
complexities as we speak. I look forward to sharing our plans with you next
week.
Thanks again for supporting our scientific mission during this difficult
time.
Please stay safe and healthy.
Stuart
