Here are the steps for requesting a new PC104/IOC to install in the
machine. It follows the same steps whether it is a single ioc or a
group of iocs.
The initial ACE-PR Request will use category "ACE-New IOC Request" (if
that category is not available yet, use ACE-Network Request)
It will go to Scott Windham and myself where we will see the entire
process through.
Me or George will make a Twiki page for this and send out the link.
This info could change slightly but will be official when the Twiki page
is done.
Step 1. Initial PC104 Request and setup
Group = I&C
-Engineer makes "ACE-New IOC Request" through ACE-PR System
-Include hostname, MAC Address, Rack Location, Network port, Console Port.
-Install Memory
-Setup BIOS
-Get MAC Address
Step 2. Configure Network
Group = ACE Network
-Configure Network Port
-Wire up Network to the chassis
-Wire up Console to the chassis
-Enter this info into CED (if not already done)
-Use ACE-PR to pass control to the next step.
Step 3. Enter IOC info and MAC into CED
Group = Software
-Enter the following info into CED
-IOC name
-MAC address of ioc
-Rack location
-Owner
-OPS network, operational, save/restore, etc.
-Boot path, etc.
-All other required fields.
-Comment field.
-Basically, we will fill in as many fields as we can at this time.
-Use ACE-PR to pass control to the next step.
Step 4. Assign IP and Setup DHCP
Group = SysAdmin
-Make new IP address.
-Enter this IP address into the CED
-Setup the DHCP.
-Setup NIS
-Setup NFS
-Use ACE-PR to pass control to the next step.
Step 5. Setup Console
Group = SysAdmin or ACE Network
-Configure Console server Port
-Configure Console Server CNAME
-Enter this port into the CED (if not already done)
-Use ACE-PR to pass control to the next step.
Step 6. Make IOC Directory
Group = Software
-Make IOC
-Use ACE-PR to pass control to the next step.
Step 7. Verify IOC Boots and Console Works
Group = I&C and Software
-Turn on the IOC chassis, and verify that the IOC pings
-> ioc_console iocXXXXrfYYYY
-Verify that we get a "cexp" prompt.
-> exit()
* Verify that the IOC chassis beeps (rebooting)
* Verify that the DHCP messages get displayed, and that we get a
"cexp" prompt
* Verify that the correct IOC name is displayed.
-Once Booting is confirmed, Close Ace-PR.
Step 8. Continue With EPICS Setup
Group = Software
