Hello Everyone,

I wanted to follow up on the rates mentioned in the meeting.
I have calculated the some rates for running at ~10^35 cm^-2 s^-1
on a He4 gas target (with some guess at window thicknesses).

The processes included are:
- Inclusively detected He4 elastic radiative tail (ERT)
- Inclusively detected protons from the quasi-elastic radiative tail
  (QRT)
- Inclusively detected electrons from the quasi-elastic radiative tail
  (QRT)
- Inclusively detected electrons from the inelastic radiative tail (IRT)

The cross sections for scattering at 60 degrees are shown in the
attached figure as a function of momentum.

The rates shown in the second figure are calculated by integrating over
the angular acceptance of ALERT. The total rate was found to be ~50 kHz
after integrating from 5 MeV up to 1 GeV in momentum. Such a low
momentum means this is a rather conservative estimate.

This still rather aggressive compared to the 5 MHz at 10^34 that is
currently in the proposal. Could someone explain the origin of this
estimate?

I look forward to your comments.

Cheers,
Whit
