Hi,

Please see the message below about the start of the accelerator. Note,
that we are the second hall to be setup for beam, so we should not
expect beam on the first day in any case.

Cheers,

Raphael

*Subject:* Update on CEBAF & Beam Restoration

Since I am in CA likely won’t be at the 9:30 ET division meeting, so
wanted to give you a quick update on when the earliest to expect the
beam is.

I have received messages from Eduard and discussed on the phone where we
are with the PD, Simona. I have also cc’d them on this message in case
they want to add any details.

The high-level message is that RF recovery of cavities as well as
getting new modules ready for operations has taken longer than
expected.   This means the machine (both NL and SL)  is still under 1060
MeV/linac that we would like to run at.    As soon as 1L09 is ready, NL
should be in good shape.   SL needs numerous cavities to be
recovered.    We are slowed at this point by limited spare parts with
repaired boards are going in nearly as fast as they can be fixed.

The bottom line is the earliest we should expect beam for physics is
Wednesday (March 26^th ).

As beam is close, it would be good for the RC’s to stay in touch with
the PD.    I would encourage them ( especially C and D since they start
the program), to start going to 7:45 meeting to stay informed as we seem
to be closing in on first beam to the halls, even if it isn’t quite as
fast as we would have liked.

Best Wishes from California,

Douglas
