Hello, We Need Your Help!

Jefferson Lab is about a month away from the Open House - scheduled for 
Saturday, May 17. The Open House is the lab's most important and largest 
public outreach effort. In 2012, between 7,000 and 8,000 people 
attended; and we are expecting as large a turnout this year. Visitors 
appreciated seeing many of the lab's facilities and were interested to 
learn about what we do.

The key to the success of the lab's Open House is our volunteers. You 
and your co-workers, members of our user community, students, and family 
members over 13 years of age -- are needed to fill the variety of 
volunteer taskings for the event.

This year, we are planning to show portions of the CEBAF tunnel, all 
four experimental halls, portions of the Test Lab/TEDF complex, CEBAF 
Center, the Machine Control Center and a portion of the Free-Electron 
Laser Facility. Many other lab work groups will have displays and 
exhibits set up under tents and in conference rooms and lobby areas.

Volunteers are needed to staff these areas, as well as to help as 
walking path monitors, bus stop monitors, welcome tent staff and bus 
riders. We need volunteers of all sorts -- those who like to speak to 
our visitors and those who prefer not to speak, those with special 
knowledge and those who would like to be a pair of hands. We need 
scientists and non-scientists, engineers and non-engineers, and 
technical and administrative staff. You can work the whole event (eight 
hours) or a four-hour shift (morning or afternoon).

Non-exempt employees will be paid, with advance approval from their 
supervisors.
