Sent on behalf of Occupational Medicine
This message is to advise all Jefferson Lab staff and Users that a staff member has recently been diagnosed with an infection of Clostridium difficile (C. diff) , a bacterium that can cause symptoms such as severe diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, nausea and fever. C. diff is potentially transmittable on surfaces.
As a precaution and to minimize the risk of infection, Jefferson Lab procured the services of a professional cleaning crew that specializes in bio-hazardous cleanup. Wednesday evening, that crew cleaned areas that were frequented by the staff member. No additional action needs to be taken by staff or Users.
Questions may be directed to Occupational Medicine at ext. 7539 or ext. 5585. Additionally, JLab’s Director of Occupational Medicine, Dr. Walter Chandler, will be available from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday in the auditorium to answer questions.
Additional information about C. diff can be obtained at:
