During this time, there will be a brief Internet outage to test the lab's backup internet connection. All Management and Information Systems (MIS) applications will be unavailable while server operating system (OS) patches are applied. The web servers eic, logbooks and cebaf will be offline briefly for a certificate update. Linux and Windows patches will be released to all desktop systems, and Firefox, Thunderbird, Java and Adobe Flash will also be updated on all Windows Systems. Additionally, jlabl3 and jlabl4 will be replaced with systems running a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Version 6 (RHEL) 64-bit OS. Finally, the CNI group will begin sending out email to all staff and users whose home directory permissions allow other staff or users access to their home directories. If you get such an email, take the time to read it and follow the instructions. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, contact the IT Division Helpdesk at x7155.</font></div><div><font face="Arial"><br></font></div><div><b><font face="Arial">Copying and Printing Conservation of Resources</font></b></div><div><font face="Arial">Jefferson Lab has printed and copied more documents in the last month than prior months. This is straining printing/copying resources during a time of lean budgets. Everyone is asked to conserve resources and to consider printing or copying only what is essential for your work. If you feel that you do need to print something, consider saving resources with the following tips:</font></div><div><font face="Arial">- Be sure to use duplex (two-sided printing, set as default);</font></div><div><font face="Arial">- Print multiple pages on a single sheet of paper (available in the layout section of your print dialog);</font></div><div><font face="Arial">- Make only black & white (B&W) prints/copies (set as default for printing); and</font></div><div><font face="Arial">- Consider scan-to-email documents as PDFs instead of making paper copies.</font></div><div><font face="Arial"><br></font></div><div><b><font face="Arial">Reminder: Jefferson Lab’s Energy Conservation Policy</font></b></div><div><font face="Arial">Jefferson Lab’s Energy Conservation Policy is designed to help determine the safest and most cost-effective ways of using and managing resources. In the current budget environment, it is very important that all members of the Jefferson Lab community be aware of and comply with this policy and seek new ways to reduce consumption of electricity, water and other resources. The policy prohibits the use of personal electrical appliances in office and work areas. If you have any questions about the policy or a request for personal appliance use, contact Bill Mooney, x5461 or <a href="mailto:mooney@jlab.org">mooney@jlab.org</a>.</font></div><div><font face="Arial"><br></font></div><div><b><font face="Arial">Flu Vaccine Available</font></b></div><div><font face="Arial">Occupational Medicine is now taking appointments from Jefferson Lab staff for Influenza vaccinations.
