This message is being sent on behalf of the JLab Computing and
Networking Infrastructure group.
The Jefferson Lab Computing and Networking Infrastructure group
requests that lab computer account holders make sure that important
work/data files – stored on desktop or laptop systems – are backed
up by the end-of-business today. Work/data files may be copied to
removable media, such as DVDs, CDs or thumb drives, or may be copied
to your group folders on the M drive (subject to space limitations).
The CNI group requests that all computer account holders take this
precaution with any work/data files that are stored locally on your
desktop/laptop machine. The "My Documents" folder, or files saved
directly to your Desktop, are examples of local data. Since these
files reside on the hard drive of your personal computer, they are not
automatically backed up. Data on the central file server (for example,
stored in the home and group areas) are routinely backed up.
Contact the IT Division Helpdesk before 4 p.m. today with any
questions or concerns regarding this process, ext. 7155 or email helpdesk at jlab.org
. The Helpdesk closes at 4:30 p.m.
