[All_jlau] Annual United Way Campaign

Colleagues;

It's once again time to show support for our communities by donating to 
the annual United Way of the Virginia Peninsula campaign.

Your contributions to the United Way go a long way toward providing 
critical services and supplies to those in our community who are in 
need. After-school programs, affordable daycare, transportation for the 
elderly, hospice care, job training for the disabled and even food and 
shelter are just some of the benefits that result from your donations.

The City of Newport News also has been very kind to Jefferson Lab over 
the years, providing everything from free emergency services to 
buildings and leasing-back at cost to space in the Applied Research 
Center Building to enthusiastic support at the State and National levels 
for the Lab's scientific endeavors. A generous contribution by all of us 
at the Lab is one way of giving back to a community that has been so 
good to us, while also setting an example for others to follow.

JLab's United Way campaign kicks-off Monday, October 8, 2012. A Pledge 
Form has been attached for your convenience. Additional physical forms 
will be available at the front desks of the SSC, ARC, MCC, and CEBAF 
center. _All forms should be returned to Joshua Cameron in Human 
Resources by October 24, 2012._ Our pledge campaign also will feature 
our annual fund-raiser picnic, which is planned for Monday, October 8, 
2012 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Hot dogs, hamburgers, soda and chips will 
be sold to raise money for the United Way and will be served by Lab 
senior management. The food is being generously donated by our Quark 
Cafe contractor, Eurest. Quark Cafe will remain open for those who do 
not wish to participate and would prefer another menu item.

We also will sell $1 raffle tickets during the picnic for a chance to 
win one of two iPads. All proceeds from the ticket sales, as well as any 
food donations, will go to United Way. The winning tickets
will be announced at the Fall Festival on October 24, 2012.

I know many of your friends and family have been assisted by United Way 
- mine certainly have. Please join me, this year's fund raising 
chairman, in making this our biggest and best campaign ever for United Way.
