Utilities infrastructure work to support the Technology and
Engineering Development Facility project will require an extensive
power outage and closure of Jefferson Lab's main entrance for the
duration of the Holiday Shutdown. Please read the following message
to determine how your area will be impacted, and how to prepare your
office or work area for the shutdown.

Electrical Power Outage
A power outage is planned for the area outside the Accelerator Site
fence, from 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, until 6 p.m. on
Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011. CEBAF Center, the EEL, Test Lab, and
Buildings 52 and 59 will be affected. The ARC and VARC will not be
affected.

Occupants of buildings that will be without power during the
shutdown are asked to empty all refrigerators/freezers by 1 p.m.
Thursday. Janitorial staff will dispose of any items left in them.

Everyone at JLab should do the following before leaving on Thursday:
- Power off all personal computers and individual UPS
(uninterruptible power supply) systems.
- Turn off all printers and copiers.
- Turn off, and if possible, unplug all appliances.

Janitorial services will start early on Thursday, in CEBAF Center,
the EEL, Test Lab, and Buildings 52 and 59 so housekeeping tasks
will be done by 5 p.m. Please don't put decomposable or wet waste
into any waste receptacles AFTER they have been emptied on Thursday.

Power will be available for Computer and Data Center servers; so
email, servers and data will be accessible from the Accelerator Site
and away from the lab. Building 52 will be on generator power for
short periods of time during the day to allow staff to perform
inspections.

Emergency communication systems will be unaffected by this outage.
However, there will be an outage of the internal and external
land-line telephone system on the Accelerator Site starting at 6
a.m. and lasting about nine hours on Dec. 30. Cell phone to cell
phone calls will work.

Impact to Northeast Corner of CEBAF Center Parking Lot
A chiller will be moved into the CEBAF Center parking lot on
Wednesday, Dec. 22, to provide cooling to the Computer and Data
Center servers during the power outage. The first two rows of the
northeast corner of the CEBAF Center parking lot (adjacent to F
Wing) will be closed while the chiller is being positioned. Once it
is in place, some adjacent parking will re-open.

Access to Jefferson Lab, ARC During Shutdown
The lab's main entrance, Onnes Drive, and the adjoining Lawrence
Drive will be closed from 5 p.m. on Dec. 23 until 6 p.m. on Dec. 31
for utilities work. Access to Jefferson Lab and the ARC (Applied
Research Center) will be via Hogan Drive off of Jefferson Ave. and
from Hogan to Rattley Road (see attached map).

Lab Energy Savings over the Holiday Break
The lab will be saving energy and dollars over the Holiday Shutdown
by turning down the heat in all buildings. Everyone is asked to turn
off their computers, printers and any other electrical appliances
during this time.

The Quark Cafe will close after lunch on Thursday, Dec. 23; it will
open for breakfast on Monday, Jan. 3.

Please refer questions to Rusty Sprouse, Director, Facility
Management & Logistics, ext. 7589.
