Members of Jefferson Lab's leadership and Emergency Management Team
met earlier today regarding the forecast path and possible impacts
of Hurricane Irene. At this time, the lab community is directed to
carry out all Hurricane Preparedness Condition-2 (HPC-2) checklist
activities.

Some additional actions outlined in HPC-3 checklists are also being
directed and those responsible for these actions have been informed.

All actions must be completed by noon tomorrow (Friday, Aug. 26).

If you are unsure of what you need to do to prepare your work area
for HPC-2, please see the appropriate Hurricane/Severe Weather
Checklist posted at:

If you should need to take personal time today or tomorrow to
prepare your home or family for Hurricane Irene response, please
coordinate with your supervisor.
Lab management and emergency management staff will meet again at the
end of the day. If conditions change an update will be sent out at
that time.
General Preparations EVERYONE is asked to complete:

-- Put all waste and recycling in appropriate receptacles for pick
up THIS EVENING by Housekeeping staff. JLab dumpsters will be
emptied on Friday morning. Housekeeping on Friday will be extremely
limited. On Friday put food and wet waste items in kitchenette and
restroom waste receptacles.

-- Pick up loose debris in your work areas (indoors and out) and get
it into the appropriate trash or recycling container. Check your
area for materials and equipment that could be blown about or
damaged by heavy rain; they may need to be moved indoors or tied
down.

-- All golf carts that don't have a shelter must be taken to the
Experimental Staging building, #23, on the Accelerator Site near the
entrance to Hall D. Bring unsheltered golf carts to Building 23
between 10 a.m. and 12-noon on Friday. A ride can be provided back
to your shop or office. If possible, put your golf cart charger
unit and charger hut into the golf cart when taking it to shelter.
If you are unable to get your golf cart to Building 23, please
contact Manny at 876-1745 or Joe at 528-7158 on Friday morning.

--Take time today to backup your JLab personal computer folders and
other electronic systems as necessary. Before you leave for the
weekend, please turn off all desktop computers. Also turn off any
UPS (uninterruptible power supply) devices in your office or work
area. The IT Division staff anticipates that the core network and
central systems will remain online without interruption over the
weekend.
