In response to the tragic bombing that occurred on April 15 in Boston,
all Department of Energy Office of Science facilities received a
Security Awareness Alert. This email includes excerpts from that message.

"At this time there are no reported threats to the Department of Energy.
Nevertheless, all DOE sites should be vigilant."

As a part of vigilance, "employees should report suspicious activities
regardless of how minor to the nearest security official." Contact the
Jefferson Lab Security Officer, Kris Burrows, at 269-7548 or email
burrows at jlab.org, or contact JLab Security at 269-5822 if you notice
suspicious activities.

"All employees should take this opportunity to familiarize themselves
with their site's security reporting and evacuation plans."

"The DOE Headquarters Office of Security, within the Office of Health,
Safety and Security, offers the following list of indicators that should
be part of enhanced vigilance:

* Unusual or prolonged interest in or attempts to gain sensitive
information about security measures of personnel, entry points, peak
days and hours of operation, and access controls such as alarms or locks;

* Discreet use of cameras or video recorders, sketching, or note-taking
consistent with surveillance; and

* Observation of or questions about facility security measures, to
include barriers, restricted areas, cameras, and intrusion detection
systems."

The DOE Alert was sent by Larry D. Wilcher, Director, Office of
Security, Office of Health, Safety & Security.
