Hello, We Need Your Help!

Jefferson Lab is less than a month away from the Open House scheduled 
for Saturday, April 30, 2016. The Open House is the lab’s most important 
and largest public outreach effort. In 2014, about 6,000 people 
attended, and we are expecting as large a turnout this year. The key to 
the success of the lab's Open House is our volunteers. You and your 
coworkers, members of our user community, students, and family members 
13 years of age and older are needed to fill the variety of volunteer 
tasks for the event.

This year, we are planning to show portions of the CEBAF tunnel, three 
of the experimentalhalls, portions of the Test Lab and Technology and 
Engineering Development building, CEBAF Center, the Machine Control 
Center, the Central Helium Liquefier, and the Low Energy Recirculator 
Facility. Many other lab work groups will have displays and exhibits set 
up under tents and in conference rooms and lobby areas. Volunteers are 
needed to staff these areas, as well as to help as walking path 
monitors, bus stop monitors, welcome tent staff and bus riders.

Volunteers of all sorts are needed for a successful event, including 
those who like to speak to our visitors and those who prefer not to 
speak, those with special knowledge and those who would like to be a 
pair of hands. There are volunteer positions for scientists and 
non-scientists, engineers and non-engineers, and technical and 
administrative staff. Please join your colleagues in helping out with 
this event. It is an ideal opportunity to learn more about the many 
unique aspects of the lab, and to help make the public more aware and 
appreciative of the work we do here.It is through the participation of 
many of us that makes this day a success.

You can volunteer for the whole event (eight hours) or a four hour shift 
(morning or afternoon). Nonexempt employees will be paid, with advance 
approval from their supervisors.
