Dear APEX,

Many of you were unable to attend the Dark Sectors 2016 Workshop held at SLAC last April. For those who did,
please pardon my spam.

At the request of DOE HEP, we have written a report,
first draft attached above, which serves to summarize the Workshop. It
gives the scientific motivations behind dark sector searches, surveys
ongoing and future accelerator searches for dark photons and hidden
sector dark matter, explores direct detection of low mass dark matter,
and considers the wealth of new theoretical ideas surrounding dark
sector physics. The report has been assembled by the working group
conveners and organizers from the workshop using the talks, discussions,
and closeout session results. The report seeks to be a snapshot of our
field that will serve a role like the Snowmass reports in educating DOE
HEP. It seeks to provide the information they will need to guide and
support future developments in our field.

We're seeking the support of the whole dark sector community, so
hope you will have a look at the report and agree to adding your name
to our list of supporters.

To do so, please just write back to John Jaros at john@slac.stanford.edu (not to me!)
of your intent to sign. Please be sure to give your name and
institution as you would like them in the author list. There are time
constraints, so please do so soon, by August 14.

If there are others you think would be interested in signing this document, can you please let me know?

Editing is still very much underway (you will see inline
comments and such), and our timetable prevents us from asking for style
feedback. However, if you see a major omission from the report, please
me know, and I will pass it on to the conveners and organizers (cc'ed
above).

Our plan is to have 1 page contributions from each of the
current experiments linked from the workshop website and referenced in
the report.

We are continuing with
editing during the week of August 8 (this week). A second revision will
be sent to the revised author list early in the week of August 15.
