Dear all,
as we discussed last meeting, some beam-off events that we classified as background events (no veto activity and large energy deposition in the crystals) are actually noise events mis-reconstructed, as it is visible by looking at the corresponding waveforms.
I made the exercise of looking at all waveforms for all the beam-off events that we classified as background events, tagging those that are noise and removing them from the analysis of the BDX-mini sensitivity. This enhances a little bit the sensitivity, since the expected background is reduced by a factor ~ 2 / ~ 3, depending on the other cuts.
The following plot shows the current value of the BDX-mini sensitivity, assuming (for now) only the charge accumulated during the Spring (2E21 EOT). The gray areas are those already excluded by other experiments, while the red, green, and blue curves correspond, respectively, to the BDX-mini sensitivity for different Etot cuts:
RED -> Etot > 100 MeV
GREEN -> Etot > 200 MeV
BLUE -> Etot > 300 MeV
It is clear that the lowest the energy cut, the higher our sensitivity. I did not yet tried with Etot > 50 MeV, since for these lower energy events I don’t have (yet!) the waveforms. I’ll update you on this.
Also, I plan to prepare the waveform data in a simplified format for some “good” and some “bad” events, so that our new collaborators can start working on a filter for the “bad” events. This will allow us to avoid looking at background events one by one...
Bests,
Andrea
