Since my normal rpg group cancelled this weekend, I invited a friend, Pete, to learn to play Space Hulk. We played the first mission, Beachhead. Since it is new to 4th ed, I had never played it. The Space Marine player gets 1 standard squad, his choice, the first turn. He gets the other standard squad the second turn. (Ten marines total.) The Genestealer player starts with 10 blips spread across the map (2/room except light blue) plus one blip per turn from turns 4-9. (16 total) The game ends with turn 12. To win, the Space Marines must clear all 6 rooms on the map and have 7+ marines left at the end to win. The Genestealers must kill 6+ Marines to win. Anything between is a draw.
In the first game Pete played the Space Marines defensively. He did not come close to clearing the rooms but I only killed 5 marines. For the highlight reel, in one turn, a Genestealer lost close combat to a spud and the Storm Shield Sergeant lost close combat with his first roll of the game!!!
In the second game, I managed to clear the board but lost my 4th casualty clearing the final room. For what it's worth, I played using the timer which turns out to be 3 minutes.
And yes, I should be doing something at least peripherally involving women on a Saturday night.
