Dear present and (potential) future collaborators on BONuS12,

as previously announced (to most of you), we are planning to have a one (full) day meeting of our collaboration this summer for an in-depth discussion of the preparations for our experiment. We hope to have reports and/or discussions on
- the status of the drift-chamber based recoil detector design
- the status of the RTPC (radial TPC with GEMs) recoil detector design
- target issues
- electronics, gas system and other ancillary devices; mechanical design
- integration in CLAS12, including simulation, Moller background, DAQ, analysis software
- integration with the proposed “BAND” (Backward-angle neutron detector)

As you can tell, there is a lot of work to do - and time is getting short:
- There will be a workshop (10/19-20) in conjunction with the CLAS collaboration meeting in October to prepare for the start of Physics with CLAS12
- Right now, BONuS12 is shown as the 2nd run group (RG F) to run with CLAS12, beginning in January 2018 (2 1/2 years from now). It was selected as “high impact” experiment by PAC41.
- The last possibility to submit an NSF MRI for the recoil detector is January 2016
- We need to select which detector technology we will use by Fall of this year!

Therefore, we are planning another one of our nearly annual “BONuSFest” meetings, to be held at Jefferson Lab. We hereby invite - nay, URGE - all of the original BONuS collaborators as well as the co-signers of the 12 GeV proposal (cc’d on this message) and any other interested parties to join this BONuSFest! Given various time constraints, it seems best to have the meeting in one of the first 3 weeks of August. I have set up a Doodle poll - please choose ALL dates that you could attend (in person or remotely through Bluejeans); if you’re not sure or the day is inconvenient but not impossible, pick "(Yes)”. Please go to
http://doodle.com/fmhxaf4tinzym7v5
and choose “Table view”.

Our main items of discussion will be the preparations for the upcoming run (in particular reports from the “Red Team” and “Blue Team” working on the two detector concepts), but if time permits and there is interest, we can also have brief reports on new results and/or papers from BONuS6. Please send me your talk requests and suggestions. Also, there is no reason to wait until August to get involved - if you would like to make a contribution to any of the issues listed above, please let me know. We will have bi-weekly regular BONuS meeting on Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. - the next one will be next week, July 2nd. There’s lots to do - any help will be much appreciated.

- Sebastian

> 2) We would like to have another one of our nearly annual BONuSfests. We can look at any new results from BONuS6 that are still coming out (Narbe’s and Eric’s fit, as well as Jixie’s pi- paper), but the main focus will be a thorough review and discussion of the two detector concepts for BONuS12, as well as other work we need to do to get ready for a BONuS12 run in 2017. NOTE: This is NOT meant (yet) to be the “downselect” for one of the 2 concepts; however, hopefully we will have been able to do some real work until then to clarify and sharpen the issues (advantages and disadvantages) for both concepts, and therefor agree on a plan of action how to proceed towards the final decision.
> One possibility for this Fest would be during the week July 20-24 - it looks neither before nor after is a good time for many of us. Another possibility is August 10-14. In both cases, we would have the additional information from PAC43, which has some bearing on our discussions.
