A few weeks ago at the BTeam meeting I said I would find out the status of the effort to implement appropriate levels of engineered controls for target and beamline equipment, an effort being led by Dave Meekins. He tells me:
The charge to the committee is:
Explore implementation of flexible and reliable engineering solutions that can be easily deployed to ensure safe beam transport and delivery to the Halls, in order to protect beam line elements, target systems and other sensitive devices close to the beam line from unacceptable beam excursions or parameter changes (e.g. beam current). The protections are envisioned to live in the beam transport lines to or within the halls themselves.
We are now identifying equipment that needs to be protected, what this equipment needs to be protected from. We are also discussing possible engineering solutions. The hope is to have a report competed near the end of the summer. Right now beam/experiment ops is dominating most of the cycles for the committee members.
