Here is the agenda for this afternoon's BTeam meeting, the last of
this year's run. We<br>
will continue to have BTeam meetings during the shutdown, focusing
on analysis of<br>
existing data, reports on systems that impact test plans, and
accelerator physics planning<br>
for the restart in the fall. Thank you for all your help and support
through the run -- we<br>
have a lot to be proud of.<br>

<div class="outline-4">
<h4 id="sec-28">1.7.1 Reworked dipole magnet hysteresis end
points: Arne/Tief/Spata/etc</h4>
<p>Leigh Harwood has requested input on top ends of hysteresis
loops for
reworked magnet measurements, for 6 and 12 GeV, for the 6
month SAD.
See the attached spreadsheet, which has blanks in the Hmax
setting
column [H] that we should fill in. Data for Arc10 is already
in hand.
Questions:
</p>
<ol>
<li>
Are there strong preferences for Hmax relative to 12GeV
settings
and power supply Imax?
</li>
<li>
Will measure some unmodified magnets on 6GeV loops to
understand
shim requirements in case of disaster. Are Hmax settings
setup
dependent? If so, what settings should be used?
</li>
</ol>
<p>Tief notes that it's best to run on the calibrated part of
the
curves from the bottom up, so the hysteresis only depends on
minimum current and not previous peak current. Historically
we
have had some problems at ~20A where PS have tripped at the
low
end and the low side of the current had to be adjusted by
3-4A. This caused a problem at least once in either Hall A
or C
(can't now remember which) at the 1%-2% energy calibration
level.
It was associated with using control points which were much
less
than 10% of peak dipole current values.
</p>
<p>
To address Leigh's particular question, I would expect the
power
supplies to be set to use something like
min[MaxRatedCurrent, (MaxInServiceCurrent*1.05)]
as
peak hysteresis current. And I'd hope for a margin of more
than 5% above MaxInServiceCurrent for
the MaxRatedCurrent
number. This seems to me to be a sufficient answer. It is an
"ask me and I'll tell you what I think" number, but I think
that
it is defensible from an operations and calibration
standpoint. I
am swayable on this issue by any others of you who think
differently. We should have a discussion to confirm or
modify
this prior to transmitting a firm answer to Leigh.
</p>
<p>
Arne dug up the existing Hmax values: Arc2 210, Arc4 230,
Arc6 305,
Arc7 240, Arc8 270, Arc9 305. Should we just have Leigh use
these?
