Photoelectric disintegration of 16O

     The photoelectric cross section of 
$^{16}$O($\gamma$,$\alpha$)$^{12}$C is estimated to be larger than the 
radiative capture cross section of $^{12}$C($\alpha$ ,$\gamma$)$^{16}$O. 
The predicted cross section and the angular distribution of 
$\alpha$-particle are illustrated for the future experiment. The cross 
section just above the $\alpha$-particle threshold is found to be 
dominated by the $E$2 excitation.

The calculation suggests we ought to try for higher energy photons, 
since cross-section will increase very fast.  References 2 and 12 speak 
to competitors of our experiment.  The new dipole is good to ~15 MeV/c 
with a 10A trim card.  Recovery rate of the bubble chamber will limit 
data rate.
