Abstract: Accelerator modelling has become an essential ingredient in the modern accelerator and beam physics, propelled by ever increasing computing power in the past decades. In the new era of the Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), it will become a dominant driving force in accelerator design, construction, and operation. To capture the trend, we will start with a comprehensive review of ML in particle accelerators, along with state-of-the-art applications
includingadaptive learning. Then we will continue with many advanced and conventional topics: spin and dipole-moment dynamics, collective instabilities, and wakefield acceleration. Finally, we will conclude the newsletter by general simulation of accelerators and mobile computing in the future, addressing critical issues of standardization, validation, user interface, and graphical processing unit and parallel computing.

Besides the regular topic articles, the issue contains Editorial with recent Ph.D. thesis abstracts, summaries

of the past and forthcoming beam dynamics events, book reviews and announcements of the ICFA Beam Dynamics Panel.

Best regards,

Yunhai Cai and Ingo Hofmann,

Editors of ICFA BDNewsletter#82.
