Hi All,

As not everyone attends the CASA coffee meetings, I wanted to include you all in a bit of news regarding IPAC. This morning, a colleague from Liverpool pointed out to me the ridiculousness that is the dress code for the opening ceremony of the conference: https://www.ipac22.org/opening-ceremony/. I hadn’t even seen it, but it is quite strict.

More importantly, however, is the discrepancy between the rules of how men and women are to dress. Women are not allowed to wear trousers, but must wear skirts, pantyhose (without runs), etc… They must remove jewelry, and abide by strict requirements. The men’s list is much shorter.

Furthermore, they do not provide guidance or even recognize that our colleagues which identify as non-binary will be in attendance.

Finally, they require that all tattoos are covered, piercings removed, etc… Not only will this be difficult for many of our colleagues who are covered with tattoos, but it discriminates against those cultures and religions in which tattoos (including face and neck) and piercings are important.

This guidance goes against the DEI policies of IPAC, and Dr. Suzie Sheehy has written a letter to the organizers asking for changes and clarification. She intends to send this letter at 22:00 UK time. If you would take the time to read through the requirements and the letter, and find that you agree with these sentiments, we ask that you sign the letter below, and circulate it among the accelerator and accelerator-adjacent community.
