Hi folks,

As I mentioned in yesterday's CASA coffee meeting, it must be FOA
season. Two new FOAs are out that could fund some activities at
JLab in general, and CASA in particular. The division office is
gathering proposal information within our division, so please
let me know if you are participating in a proposal or proposals
for either of these FOAs. Organizational support will be needed
for several weeks to review the proposals, prepare budgets, and
provide resourcing and scope feedback. The lab submits all
internally-approved proposals, rather than individual PIs.

(*) R&D for Next Generation NP Facilities
   - https://science.osti.gov/np/-/media/grants/pdf/foas/2022/SC_FOA_0002670.pdf
   - Issued Feb 10, 2022
   - Due date Apr 8, 2022 (no pre-application required)
   - Individual award ranges: $50k-$2M over two years

Improvement of existing facilities falls under this call, so a
modest JLab/BNL joint proposal to fund further work on FFA-CEBAF
(and expand it beyond the LDRD) would be appropriate.

Direct EIC project activity is excluded, but "R&D that may lead to
advancement in the capabilities of EIC after construction may be
considered." Some e.g. advanced second IR design activity might
   fall under this category.

Another thrust area is "Transformative accelerator R&D in next
   generation ion and electron sources."

(*) Research Opportunities in Accelerator Stewardship and Accelerator
     Development
   - https://science.osti.gov/ardap/funding-opportunities/-/media/grants/pdf/foas/2022/DE-FOA-0002675.pdf
   - Issued Feb 15, 2022
   - Due date Apr 26, 2022 (pre-applications required by Mar 15, 2022)
   - Individual award ranges: depends on tracks (pages 25-26)

This is the large accelerator stewardship proposal call, jointly
managed by Eric Colby and Bruce Carlsten. This is a long and
complicated call, with four tracks and several sub-tracks:

Track 1: Accelerator Stewardship Topical Areas
     1. Particle Therapy Beam Delivery Improvements
     2. Ultrafast Laser Technology Program
     3. High Power Electron Accelerator Technology for Industrial
        Applications
     4. Compact Accelerator Technologies for Security and Medicine

   Track 2: Long-Term Generic Accelerator R&D
   - Specifically oriented towards academic institutions (e.g. ODU);
     see page 15.

Track 3: Accelerator Stewardship Test Facility Program
Track 4: Accelerator-Technology Sector Production Enhancement

                                                 -Todd
