Date: Wed, 11 Sep 2024 09:02:27 -0400
From: Geoffrey A. Krafft <krafft at jlab.org>
Today a seminar will be held at ODU's Center for Accelerator
Science at 1:30 today
Here is the meeting link for those of you who would like to
attend remotely.

The should be no password required. I will be broadcasting
from the CAS conference room for those of you who would
like to meet in person. Those of you in Norfolk, it would be
nice for us to all meet again.

Universal Spectral Curves for Compton-Scattered
Radiation and Undulator Radiation
G. A. Krafft, for the ODU Compton Group
It is quite common that computed Thomson/Compton scattered radiation spectra have the fol-
lowing qualitative behavior. The high-energy side of the spectrum is sharp, rising rapidly to an
edge value. On the other hand, the low-energy side of the spectrum exhibits a falloff that looks
exponential with a much wider width determined by the source size and magnitude of the emittance
present in the electron beam. In this letter we give analytic calculations that recover these behaviors
both qualitatively and quantitatively. As undulator radiation has equivalent parameters that cause
the radiation to fall squarely in the Thomson regime, the same basic results apply to incoherent
undulator radiation radiated in the fundamental cone.
