Hi folks,
Kevin and I had a meeting earlier today with Mike Spata, Evelyn, and
Michelle Martocci (space management) regarding the move. I promised to
be transparent so here's what we know so far:
- The biggest news is that there is a target date to be out of
the ARC: June 20. Yes, 2025. Yes, that's 65 days from today.
I've warned it would happen fast.
- It's not clear to me what *must* be done by that day
other than we should have our offices sufficiently vacated
for facilities folks to move us. I'm taking this to mean that
I am packing up all my personal things in my office and moving
them home by that date. I encourage others to do the same.
- You should have a good idea of what you must have in your
office to do your job on a regular basis, and what is needed
only occasionally or rarely and can be stored. I'm sure that
we will have to store a lot of official material that we have
collected in our offices.
The three above points are the main message of this email -- *the move
is very likely coming*, we should take it seriously this time, and we
should partition what we each have in our workspaces into personal
things to go home, work things we need, and work things that can be
stored.
I'll talk with Evelyn and others to see how we can store what needs to
be stored. You should not throw out any "official" documents -- that
is, any documents where there are not electronic copies, or books with
library tags, or other lab property. We will figure out how they can
be stored. You can toss/recycle/shred:
- printouts of any papers or documents that have digital access
- copies of expired contracts, purchase orders, or technical manuals
Printed copies of employee evaluations or other confidential/PII
information should be shredded. I've put my working shredder in the
printer room for this purpose.
For your personal property, you can buy boxes or plastic bins to carry
your personal items home; the lab is not responsible to buy containers
for personal items. We will file ServiceNow requests for bins closer
to the move since they are supposed to be returned within two weeks of
use, and we will be a big move.
One last item: it's also not clear to anyone *where* we move. Today's
discussion with Michelle was to talk through some alternatives. There
is more negotiating/discussion in the near term, including with the
division and even leadership, about the "where" and "how". I won't
hypothesize. We just don't know where yet.
-Todd
