One model that IUPAP discussed was to charge speakers at remote
conferences a nominal registration fee (50 EU has been suggested) to
cover expenses (IT support and proceedings) while participants would be
able to register for free. I'd like to hear from the IAC what they
thing of such a model. It does cost something to run a virtual
conference and speaking is a positive activity that people should be
willing to pay a small fee for.
I am in favor of proceedings, despite being very lax with them in the
past myself. Often, for computing projects, the CHEP proceedings are
the only written description aside from highly technical documentation.
