I’m glad to see that my opinion aligns with those expressed on this thread. I really do not think that we can get >400 international participants to Norfolk next year. It’s great that you were able to negotiate a way to postpone it to
2022 and we should support your good work on this.
Regarding CHEPinos, I think we should work with HSF/WLCG/OSG to organize regardless of branding. Also don’t forget that all are invited to participate in the Snowmass process which will be in full swing by that time next year. Just as with the EU Strategy,
the US process also welcomes international participation. I know that one of your goals was to bring closer collaboration with NP, does that community have a similar strategy process? It is easier to blur boundaries with virtual meetings, so in my view
we should get that + from next years meetings to balance out all of the negatives of not meeting in person.

For 2021, I think our community will benefit from a conference in Computing for High Energy Physics in the timescale of May. That would be an online conference in my opinion, like it happened for other big conferences line ICHEP this year.
The point is that particularly younger people in early stages of their career (but not only) will have an opportunity to present their work, have the proceedings published in a journal, etc .. It will also offer the possibility to set a natural deadline for
some of the work being done. The risk is that otherwise many of the fellows or first year postdoc will finish their first working experience without any of that, that is not good in my opinion. It is not obviously as ideal as an in-person CHEP because of the
networking aspects Pete highlighted, but it is the best we can probably do.
