[Clas12_dileptons] HTCC and track sector studies

Is it different from what Joseph is showing?
I mean the BH events/ J/psi events ratio.

Hi Valery,
No sorry for the confusion, I use two different ML algorithms. One does PID for e+ so just distinguishing between e+/pi+, the other selects J/psi events from e+ e- p. The second one suppresses BH events, but the first one doesn't.
In my slides I was showing momentum after applying the first e+ PID ML algorithm. The point was that just as Stepan was showing, the single sector cut doesn't make much difference once you apply more restrictions on PID. The corresponding e+ e- invariant mass plot is copied underneath, as you can see BH is not suppressed (and there's good agreement with fall2018).
Thanks,
Richard

Richard,
I think that you suppress the real BH events when you apply your ML selection cut.
I am not sure that you can recover this in your MC program. But we need BH events to calibrate the luminosity fo the experiment. It is not what we want actually.
Am I right?
Thanks,
valery

Hi All,
Sorry for not uploading my slides. I've attached a slightly modified copy to reflect the comments at the meeting. My cuts are shown on the first page, this time I explicitly require the invariant mass between 2 and 2.8 GeV. One thing I changed for these slides was to check the impact with some extra pid requirements. Instead of using the triangular cuts I used this ML based classifier to ID e+ (same as what Pierre did for his thesis).
Anyways, it seems like, just as in Stepan's slides which have extra PID for e+, requiring only one sector in each of HTCC/DC/PCAL/ECIN doesn't make a big change once we have more PID requirements for e+.
Hope this helps,
Richard

Thanks, yes
then I was wrong assuming requesting PCal sector instead of track sector might change anything.

Valery,
Yes, all detectors except HTCC already have an explicit same-sector requirement with the track, so adding it for (1) HTCC-track or (2) HTCC-PCAL should be 100% identical.

Nathan,
This story started with the trigger validation.
When we select events with PID=-11we found a lot of events when HTCC signal was not in the same sector as PCAL/ECAL.

you require sector of the track to be the same as the sector of HTCC,
while for trigger studies we required sector of HTCC to be the same as the sector of PCal
Those should give exactly the same result, since truly sectored detectors are already required to be in the same sector as the track.

Hello Stapan,
thank you for slides.
To me pid cuts are pretty reasonable.
I assume exclusivity cuts are |MM2| < 0.1 GeV^2 AND Q2 < 0.1 GeV^2
when Richard will post his slides, we can have a look into his cut values.
However one thing that I think is different is that you require
sector of the track to be the same as the sector of HTCC,
while for trigger studies we required sector of HTCC to be the same as the sector of PCal and EC_in (nothing
required on track sector).
I am not sure how much difference this will make (if any), but if it is not too much of work, could
you require PCal and HTCC sectors to be the same, instead of track and HTCC sectors.
Rafo
p.s. also could you make the comparison plot in a linear scale.

Hello all,
Attached are a few slides I put together to study the HTCC-track sector mismatch. Yes, there are positrons with odd sector combinations, especially for p<4.8 GeV. But in the end, it makes no difference for my invariant mass distribution.
