Dear RGA,
As we discussed this morning, we would like to begin a second run at producing a common analysis note for the whole run group. The note is meant to serve as a common tool for RGA with a description of things like particle identification, fiducial cuts, information on MC and data matching, common systematics, etc. There is, of course, still room to expand your analysis above and beyond the things we aim to list here but the goal is to have an agreed upon starting point for consistency between analyses, especially to assist new analyzers on where to start, and also to document things like beam polarizations, trigger conditions, beam energies, helicity flip requirements, etc.
In order to increase efficiency and to stay as organized as possible, I would like to do this in a procedural and iterative manner. I think the most logical place to start is with a set of common fiducial cuts. To that end, I’d appreciate if analyzers could email me a brief description of the fiducial cuts they are currently using (on pass-2 data), particularly helpful would be any links to presentations or repositories that you make use of. We should define fiducial cuts for the FT, calorimeter, drift chambers and the cvt.
As I expressed today, I think a good place to focus on would be on the actual method for deriving the cuts that you use, in particular because of the coming Spring 2018 data and the possibility of a potential recook of Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 with DAF tracking. I’d be interested in hearing what data people begin from when deriving their cuts (do you use dsts? trains? post-channel selection?). I will do my best to aggregate all of our different methods and then we can schedule a dedicated meeting to discuss our conclusions and decisions on standardization. In all likelihood, probably two meetings so we can first agree on any additional studies that may be necessary before making a decision and presenting to the larger run group.
Best regards,
Timothy
