Dear all,
Copied below is my abstract for this year's DNP for approval. I would
appreciate any comments or contributions. Thank you in advance for the help.

Determination of Kinematical Bins for η and η’ Electroproduction with
JLab's CLAS12 Detector
-/title-
-abstract-
The CLAS12 physics program is involved in the studies of the nucleon
resonance spectrum and structure in electroproduction of a large variety
of final states. With new CLAS12 data, we can investigate the
electroproduction of the η and η’ mesons, which will provide a useful
tool to study nucleon resonances N*. Due to the fact that both η and η’
have isospin I = 0 this provides an “isospin filter” that allows us to
access nucleon resonances where I = ½. This work uses the 6.5 GeV data
collected by CLAS12, with center of mass energy W ∼ 1-3 GeV, photon
virtuality Q2 ∼ 0-6 GeV2, and luminosity 54 fb-1. The purpose of this
work is to measure the differential cross section for η and η’
electroproduction. One of the steps necessary for this measurement is
the determination of the bins and bin sizes for the kinematical
parameters W, Q2, cosθ*, and ϕ*. This will require the development of
programs that filter the data and the application of fiducial cuts to
the remaining final states. After the data has been reduced to the
relevant final states we will develop an automatic method to fit each
individual kinematical bin and determine the goodness of said fit. This
will enable us to extract the η and η’ signal in each bin to determine
which bins can be used and which will need to be adjusted or rejected.
Finally, to verify η and η’ detection, we will perform Monte Carlo
simulations for comparison. This work is in contrast to the bulk of the
current world database, which focuses on πN final states.
