[Clas12_rich] Visual Inspection of RICH Mirrors 5 and 6

Dear Dr. Rossi, 

As requested, we have visually inspected RICH Mirrors 5 and 6. Attached are photos from the inspection. 

The results are as follows with the name of the picture showing the issue in parentheses: 

Mirror 5 


    * Holes in outer bag. (Mirror 5_01) 
    * White board covering mirror surface did not cover surface on an edge (Mirror 5_02) 
    * 

Mirror was missing padding put at corner for one corner (Mirror 5_03) 
        * Padding had fallen out into outer bag, was placed in proper spot when repacking. 
    * Crease on back surface (Mirror 5_04) 
        * Saw similar creases on other mirrors, may be from manufacturing. 
    * Mirror surface corner not on pad was scuffed (Mirror 5_05) 
    * Scratches on mirror surface. (Mirror 5_06, Mirror 5_07) 
    * Visible line down center of mirror (Mirror 5_08) 
        * Line was not scratch, could be from manufacturing process. 
    * Small, black piece of material on mirror surface (Mirror 5_09) 

Mirror 6 


    1. Holes in outer bag (Mirror 6_01) 
    2. Corner of back surface punctured interior wrapping material (Mirror 6_02) 
    3. White board covering mirror surface did not cover surface along one edge (Mirror 6_03) 
    4. Crease on skin of back surface (Mirror 6_04) 
        * Saw similar creases on other mirrors, may be from manufacturing. 
    5. Tape had stuck to mirror surface, but did not leave mark on mirror surface (Mirror 6_05) 
    6. Small scratches and scuffs on mirror surface (Scratch- Mirror 6_06, Scuff- Mirror 6_07) 
    7. Small divot on mirror surface (Mirror 6_08) 
    8. Visible line down center of mirror (Mirror 5_09) 
        * Line was not scratch, could be from manufacturing process. 



In addition to the above, both mirrors were not wrapped in the white padding material very well. For Mirror 5, the padding seemed pieced together out of pieces of material rather than single, long pieces as with the other mirrors. For Mirror 6, there was one really long piece of padding wrapped several times around the mirror, rather than only once and then securely taped. After inspecting the mirrors, we re-wrapped them as best we could so they are now wrapped how the previous mirrors were wrapped. 




I am not sure of whether a few of the above, like the creases on the back skin and the lines on the mirror surface, are just from the manufacturing process. I am also not sure if the small scratches are a big problem because the mirrors do not have the final coating yet.
