Dear Colleagues,

You may have seen the message below already, but I am sending it out
again to emphasize the importance of participating in the Thesis Prize
and the Postdoc Prize contests.

As a collaboration we want to be seen and recognized for the high
quality and impact of our research, and for the way we document the
research. PhD theses should reflect the high quality of research
that is usually the result of many years of hard work. The quality
of the written theses determines to a significant degree how our
collaboration is regarded within our community. It is therefore very
important that we submit our best PhD thesis projects for the UGBoD
contest (deadline January 31, 2012).

I also want to remind Students and Postdocs that there will be a Poster
competition at the User Group meeting in June 2012. At the last meeting
in June, the CLAS collaboration was underrepresented. I appeal to the
University professors and thesis advisers among Staff Scientists to
encourage students and Postdocs to prepare appealing posters of their
work. Besides the immediate monetary benefit and the invitation for a
presentation at the next users meeting, well developed posters can
be presented at international conferences and workshops, and give
the young researchers the opportunity to travel to conference and
receive the deserved recognition for their work.
