Dear all,
The PAC43 completed their work and here are the main results:
=> There were 8 proposals presented, none of them were outright approved.
The DVCS on polarized neutrons has a very strong physics case,
but had
some unresolved questions related to the parallel running and
the new beam
time. It was approved conditionally with condition C2, i.e. it
should go back to
the PAC next time with an undated proposal, possibly split into
one run group
proposal for the 63 days and one new proposal that also has
additional other
physics components included. One unaddressed issue was the
contribution from
charge exchange reaction, where the initial coupling is to the
proton, and the proton
knocks out the neutron. Since dvcs on proton is much larger,
this contribution
maybe significant.
=> The EMC/SRC on deuterium was a run group proposal and endorsed as
such. There
were a couple of questions, one was on the validity of the
factorization in the
cross section ratio formula.
=> Letter of Intent "Search for Hybrid baryons". It was endorsed to
and encouraged to
develop full proposal. Due to the use of different beam
energies, they want to see tha
split into one part as a run group proposal with run group A for
the 11 GeV, and
a separate proposal for the lower energies, joint with other
proposals that also make
use of the lower energies.
I attach the table with all results of all the proposals. Comments on
the run group proposals
and on the LOIs will be send out by the PAC in the near future, but
they should not change
the main conclusions.
All in all a pretty good result considering the none of the proposals
was fully approved.
Have a good weekend,
Volker
