YORKTOWN, VA - Bogdan Niczyporuk, a long-time resident of Yorktown, 
passed away peacefully at age of 81 on September 5, 2017. Born in 1936 
in rural Poland, his diverse and eclectic journey traversed eight 
decades of change and rich experiences. From first two years of 
elementary school under German occupation, through study of Physics at 
University of Moscow under communism where he met and married lovely 
Nina, to accomplished career in particle physics spanning Russia, 
Poland, Germany, Switzerland and US, accompanied by rich body of 
published papers and challenging research projects. Bogdan and his 
family permanently moved to America in 1983, first at Stanford 
University in Palo Alto, CA, and since 1988 at Jefferson Lab in Newport 
News, VA. After his retirement in 2003, he remained keenly interested in 
work of his group at Jefferson Lab and often attended weekly team 
meetings, continued as an avid world traveler, and a passionate bridge 
player. Bogdan is survived by two sons, Marek and his wife Paula of 
Asheville, NC, and Michael in San Antonio, TX. He was preceded in death 
by his loving and beloved wife Nina in 1996. The memorial graveside 
service will be held on Saturday, September 16 at 2 p.m. at the 
Peninsula Memorial Park, in Garden at Sermon on the Mount, located at 
12750 Warwick Boulevard, Newport News, VA. Visitation will follow at his 
home in Yorktown, VA. Arrangements are in the care of Peninsula Funeral 
Home.
