The setting of this environment variable was forbidden in the apache configuration, but also, the directories to which the variable pointed were not mounted on the new server.

In particular, /home/… is not mounted on the new server. These libraries were installed in /home/<someuser>/public_modules and /home/<someuser>/vrml_modules. I checked the tops of these files and saw no copyright notices, etc. I created a new directory -- /group/clas/www/clasweb/perl_modules . I copied the contents of the original directories to this location. Then, I changed the apache config to allow the .htaccess file to add environment variables, and edited the .htaccess file to reflect this new location.

The system seems to be responding now, though I can’t login so I can’t actually test the application.
