I have read the article on "Subthreshold photoproduction of phi mesons
from deuterium." I have a few wording suggestions and some more
fundamental questions:
Suggestions:
p. 2 right column, 6 line
"openning in the CLAS acceptance..." -> "loss in the CLAS acceptance..."
same paragraph, line 12.
"g10 hydrogen data set" I assume this refers to some calibration hydrogen
data taken during g10. This should be mentioned more specifically in the
text as it is very confusing. [References alone to previous publications
are insufficient].
same paragraph, line 23, 24
The quote yields should be given explicit units, I assume they are events?
"Acceptance corrected events" or not (assuming same acceptance between g10
and g11). But were the two data sets taken at the same magnetic field
settings?
p. 3, right column bottom paragraph,
I echo many of Reinhard's concerns about the Egboost cut. Since it is an
obscure variable and the paper is touted as useful for future experiments,
it should only be used if essential to the analysis. How much difference
does it make in the final answer? (No discussion on the section following
on systematics????). If it does not make much of a difference, I suggest
removing it completely from the analysis.
p. 4, left column, bottom full paragraph,
The cross sections are computed relative to |t-t0|. It appears that |t0|
[as an aside note absolute magnitude] is the minimum for the photon energy
NOT corrected for acceptance. However, the argument in the paper is that
the energy range 1.65-1.75 is sub-threshold because of acceptance [p. 2
top right]. This might be more complicated, but should the t0 be corrected
for acceptance as well?
p. 4, left column, bottom line
I would add "In summary, we have extracted..."
p. 4. Fig 3, y-axis label
"mub" is standard abreviation for micro bar [no need to spell "barn"]
Cheers, Elton.
