Dear Priya, Volker, et al.,

I am very sorry to take until the very last minute to comment on your
draft paper "First Measurements....Resonance Region". It is a nice
paper and I think it has some chance of being accepted in PRL. My
comments are brief and mostly related to grammar and usage.

Page 1, Column 2, Paragraph 2, Line 5: I'd put the Keith reference
last in the list

p1,c2,p4,l8: what does "fitting the incident-energy distributions"
mean in this context? I don't think the general reader will know
what this means. Maybe add a sentence with one more level of
explanation?

p2,c1,p1,l4: not clear what is meant by "when pointing away (towards)
the floor of the ..." When *what* is pointing?

p2,c1,2p,l6: I would call it a TOF "system" not a "spectrometer",
both here and later in the text. Calling it a spectrometer implies
to me a stand-alone device. Also, use "...(DC) and A time-..."

p2,c1,p3,l8: there is a grammar issue here. Try "...one proton,
PLUS one positively-charged (NO COMMA) and one negatively charged..."

p2,c2,p1,l1: selected besed on good agreement OF WHAT??

p2,c2,p2,l7: tense problem: use "...background consistED mostly..."
In general, check for consistent tense in your writing. Mostly you
want past tense until you get to discussion of the results.

p2,c2,p3: You did not really define "polarization configuration 1 or
2" , Also, the weights w_i are unclear: What does the superscript
notation in Eq. 3 mean?

p2 last line: use "was" not "is". In fact, it is not clear why you
suddenly switched to present tense in this paragraph. Past tense
seems better. Also, "Figures 2 and 3" --> "Figs. 2 and 3" according
to AIP style rules.

Ref 19: I'm sure you'll fix this reference....

Good luck with this paper.

Reinhard
