Jefferson Lab is pleased to announce a successful conclusion to the
international search for scientists to fill two key positions at the
laboratory: the Associate Project Manager (APM) for Physics for the 12
GeV Upgrade and the Hall D Group Leader.
Dr. Glenn Young has accepted the position of APM for Physics in the
Upgrade project and will be joining the laboratory August 31. Glenn
received his Ph.D. in 1977 from MIT for work carried out at the BNL dual
tandem van de Graaff facility. He joined ORNL in 1978 as a Wigner
Fellow to work at HHIRF. In 1986 his group at ORNL moved their efforts
to the CERN SPS as part of the relativistic heavy-ion program then
starting there, participating in the series of experiments WA80, WA93
and WA98. He is one of the original members of the PHENIX collaboration
at RHIC at BNL, serving as deputy project manager and deputy spokesman,
with project responsibilities for electronics, data-acquisition and
online computing. Since 2002 he has been director of the Physics
Division at ORNL. He has been a member of the JLab PAC and various
advisory groups to the Lab since the early 1990s and is looking forward
to working on the 12-GeV Project.
Dr. Eugene Chudakov has accepted the position of Hall D leader. Eugene
received his Ph.D. in 1987 from Dubna for research on hadroproduction of
hyperons and heavy flavors carried out at the Serpukhov accelerator.
From 1989 to 1998 he was at CERN doing research on charm physics,
hyperon polarization and search for exotic resonances using the
Omega-spectrometer. He joined JLab in 1998, and has been involved in a
broad variety of experiments in Hall A, with particular emphasis on the
parity violation program in the hall, and on the design and maintenance
of major equipment in the Hall, including both beam polarimetry and
reaction product calorimetry. Eugene has been serving as Acting Hall D
leader for the last six months, and so the transition will be immediate
and seamless.
Please join us in welcoming Glenn to Jefferson Lab and in thanking
Eugene for a job well done as Acting Hall D leader and congratulating
him on his promotion.
Regards,
Claus Rode, Allison Lung, and Larry Cardman
