Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will serve as a recognized
scientific authority and expert
in the areas of isotope facility operations and isotope processing,
including the status of isotope
production and processing facilities, and as such have the
responsibility to plan, coordinate, implement,
and evaluate this field on a national and international level. The
incumbent will serve as Program Manager determining scientific focus and
direction of isotope production and processing facilities’ improvement
projects and facility instrumentation initiatives, preparing calls for
proposals, organizing independent peer reviews, recommending funding
allocations, organizing Principal Investigator meetings, serving as a
liaison on committees, and monitoring scientific progress of the
program. The incumbent will examine and ascertain effectiveness of
operations of the nuclear physics isotope production and processing
facilities against scientific and technological advances and of
potential needs of the Department of Energy. The incumbent will
critically evaluate contractor, DOE laboratory, and grantee research
proposals and performance via own scientific and technical judgment,
merit review, site visits and reviews, and panel reviews. The incumbent
will develop and prepare analytical documents to communicate with top
management of DOE and higher echelons of government on the status of
programmatic phases and new developments and opportunities in a broad
range of nuclear physics and accelerator facility operations.
