[Cuga] Jefferson Lab Organizational Structure---a message from Hugh Montgomery

Dear Colleague,
The organizational structure for Jefferson Lab will be changing slightly
over the next few weeks. I believe these changes will improve
integrated planning and provide more streamlined support to the line
organizations. The attached power point charts provide details on the
changes to the structure which will be fully implemented by December 1,
2009. The changes reflected in the attached charts are:
· The Directorate will be comprised of the Director, a Deputy
Director for Science and Technology, and a Deputy Director for
Operations. Mike Dallas, the COO, will also serve as the Deputy
Director for Operations. We hope to fill the new position of Deputy
Director for Science and Technology within the next few months.
· The Director will retain direct supervisory responsibility for
Physics, Accelerator, FEL, Theory and the 12 GeV Project
· The Deputy Director for Science and Technology will have
primary responsibility for developing the scientific strategic plans for
the Laboratory and managing advisory committees for Nuclear Physics,
Accelerator Science and Photon Science, in addition to overseeing
university relations.
· The Deputy Director for Operations/COO will have direct
supervisory responsibility for CFO and Business Services, ESH&Q,
Engineering, Facilities and Logistics and CIO/CTO.
· Human Resources, Legal Counsel, Internal Audit, and the Office
of Community Outreach, Science Education and Public Affairs will report
to the Directorate. Mike Dallas will retain day-to-day supervisory
responsibility for these activities.
· A new organization, Project Management and Integrated
Planning, has been created from existing activities to provide a single
point of contact and integrated approach for many diverse support
functions that engage the entire Laboratory. These support functions
are indicated on the second chart. The new organization, as shown on
the third chart, consolidates project planning, Annual Work Plan system
management, performance management, planning and strategic projects, and
administrative support. This organization is explicitly designed to
provide support to the directorate and line organizations; it will
report to the Deputy Director for Operations on a day-to-day basis.
