Research Associate Position
Experimental Particle Physics
University of Virginia
The Experimental Particle Physics group at the University of Virginia
has an immediate opening for a research associate in the field of
experimental
elementary particle physics. The research goals of our group include the
investigation of the fundamental symmetries of nature. We are playing a
leading role on two Fermilab experiments: NOVA, which is currently
being built and will start taking data in early 2011, and Mu2e, which is
in the R&D stage. NOVA will be one of the seminal neutrino experiments
in the
coming decade; Mu2e, a flagship experiment for the future Fermilab
high-intensity physics program, will search for lepton flavor violation
with unprecedented
sensitivity.
The Virginia group has major responsibilities for the construction of
the near and far NOVA neutrino detectors: we are solely responsible for
the fabrication of the power distribution system. On Mu2e we are
leading the Cosmic Ray Veto detector group, which will be fabricated at
Virginia.
The successful applicant will be resident at Fermilab and is expected to
take a leadership role in the NOVA physics analysis, and to participate
in the Mu2e R&D program. Applicants must have a PhD in experimental
particle or nuclear physics. The position is immediately available and
will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is found. Interested
candidates should send their curriculum vitae, a description of their
research interests, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to
be sent to:
