The Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) became mandatory 
for all passengers traveling to the United States under the Visa Waiver 
Program (VWP) on January 20, 2010. ESTA requires VWP travelers entering 
the United States to apply for authorization at least 72 hours prior to 
travel through the second link listed below. ESTA is a free, automated 
system that determines the eligibility of visitors to travel to the 
United States under the VWP. The ESTA application collects the same 
information collected on Form I-94W.
