Abstract:
While most of the data at Jefferson Lab is associated with the
experimental physics program, most of the computing at the laboratory is
focused on theory calculations. This talk will look at computing trends
at the laboratory, both for data analysis and for theory (lattice QCD),
with a particular focus on the disruptive technology now be exploited to
great effect here at JLab: graphics processors. We will touch on
concepts in parallel programming, look at computer architectures a bit,
and even have a quick look at how to program a general purpose GPU.
