Dear Colleague,
We are pleased to invite you to participate in the workshop *Partons in
Nucleons and Nuclei*:
PINAN11
to be held in
Marrakech Morocco, September 26-30, 2011
PINAN11 is the second workshop following the first one held in Yerevan,
Armenia in 2010 entitled"Transverse Partonic Structure of Nucleons".
This new meeting expands on the previous one as it focuses on the
experimental program planned for Jefferson Lab 12 GeV Upgrade, outlining
the necessary experimental, theoretical as well as computational support
to enhance our understanding of transverse momentum, spin and spatial
structure of hadrons and nuclei in terms of their basic constituents
namely quarks and gluons.
The meeting to be held in Morocco is organized by Argonne National Lab
with the goal of having extensive discussions on the present
experimental results from worldwide laboratories active in the field of
QCD through hadronic and nuclear physics studies. In addition to what
the JLab 12 GeV upgrade approved experiments can offer to advance our
understanding of QCD using hadrons and nuclei as a laboratory.Discussion
of the theoretical guidance and challenges in this endeavor will be
explored widely to offer a clear path for relevant and novel studies in
the JLab 12 GeV era and beyond with a possible Electron-Ion Collider.
The scientific program will include the following topics:
·Nucleon electromagnetic structure
·Parton distributions in nucleons and nuclei
·Tomography of nucleons and nuclei
·Nucleon spin and quarks angular momentum
·Quark-quark and quark-gluon correlations in nucleons and nuclei
·Hadronization, color transparency and short range correlations
The format of this week-long meeting is similar to that of a workshop
with only plenary sessions. A website with further details including
registration, abstracts submission, lodging, travel, visa requirements
will soon be available. In the mean time urgent questions could be
addressed by emailing Debbie Morrison (Morrison at anl.gov
<mailto:Morrison at anl.gov>).
With a view towards the future activities in this field, Principal
Investigators are strongly encouraged to consider supporting their
students' participation.
