Job Description: six postdoctoral researchers (theory and experiment)

Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, Valparaíso, is a top
university in Chile, with an institutional focus on the science and
engineering disciplines. It has the largest high energy physics group in
the country, with about a dozen senior researchers, half a dozen
postdocs, and numerous students and visitors. While the majority of the
research performed is in theory and phenomenology, the experimental
program is growing rapidly and includes research with ATLAS at the CERN
LHC, MINERVA at Fermilab, GlueX/Hall D and CLAS/Hall B at Jefferson Lab,
and NA61 at the CERN SPS. The local facilities include a detector
laboratory that has a focus on compact light detectors and related
technologies and applications, and a grid computing cluster that
performs computations both for local users and for LHC experiments
through the WLCG grid. Collaborative research in this group is conducted
with groups in the Electronics Engineering Department and in the
Informatics (Computing) Department via the Valparaíso Center for Science
and
Technology and the Center for Advanced Studies in Physics and Engineering.

The Valparaíso campus of the university is located on picturesque Cerro
Placeres overlooking the scenic and historic Valparaíso harbor. With a
short metro ride to the south one can access the downtown region of the
city, including a former home of the famous poet and Nobel Laureate
Pablo Neruda, and the historic port, which has been designated a UNESCO
World Heritage Site. With a short metro ride along the coast to the
north, one can access the modern beach resort city of Viña del Mar, with
many restaurants, concerts, and cultural attractions. The nation's
capital and a major airport are about 100 km to the east, near the Andes
mountain range, which has attractive scenery and skiing in season. Chile
is renowned for its natural beauty and variety of terrain, from the
world's driest desert in the North to the verdant South, extending into
Patagonia.
