Job Description

Job Title:
Scientific Staff - Asst Physicist - RHIC Spin Physics, eRHIC (5903)

Job ID:
15641

Location:
Building 0510A

Full/Part Time: Full-Time

Job Duties

Candidates should have a proven track record for doing independent
research in high-energy nuclear physics or high-energy physics with a
minimum of five years after Ph.D. Experience with design, fabrication,
assembly, and operations of detectors is highly desirable.

The Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National
Laboratory is the world's only machine capable of colliding high-energy
beams of polarized protons, and is a unique tool for exploring the
puzzle of the proton's 'missing' spin. Members of the RHIC spin group
are playing key roles in detector development and analysis of the
polarized proton-proton data in both the PHENIX and STAR collaborations
at RHIC. The other major involvements of the RHIC spin group is in the
RHIC polarimeters, which provide the measurement of the polarization of
the proton beams at RHIC, and a feasibility test/experiment to measure
Drell-Yan in polarized pp-collisions.

As a member of the group, the successful candidate will be able to
choose one of the collaborations and is expected to take a leadership
role in the analysis of polarized proton-proton data in the respective
collaboration.

Brookhaven National Laboratory has begun a program of research aimed at
studying the physics potential for a future Electron Ion Collider, and
the prospective candidate will be expected to participate in the
development of the physics case for an EIC.

For further detail about the position, please contact E.C. Aschenauer
(elke at bnl.gov), Physics Department.

When applying for a position, please add the contact and email address
of at least three references in the Reference box located on the

positions under one application, the same reference information is
attached to all those positions. If you elect to use different referees
for different positions, please apply to each position separately.
