SALARY RANGE: $54,400 - $108,100 (SS I/II)
DUTIES:
The Hall A group at Jefferson Lab is seeking an accomplished physicist
with broad experience in nuclear or high energy physics as well as in
the construction and operation of particle detectors and ancillary
equipment.
Hall A supports a broad research program to study the structure of
nucleons and nuclei including measurements of nucleon elastic form
factors and nucleon spin structure in the valence quark regime to deeply
virtual Compton scattering and parity-violating electron scattering
tests of the Standard Model. An experimental research program at the
forefront of hadronic physics has been approved for Hall A.
The Hall A group currently operates a pair of high-resolution
spectrometers and is engaged in the design of three large equipment
updates that will be used after Jefferson Lab's 12 GeV energy upgrade of
the CEBAF accelerator.
The successful candidate will initially have responsibility for
supporting the experimental program in Hall A as well as working on the
design, construction, commissioning and operation of the new equipment.
Minimum Qualifications A Ph.D. in Experimental Nuclear or Particle
Physics and at least two years of postdoctoral experience in an
experimental nuclear or particle physics environment. Candidate should
have demonstrated leadership in several research programs and the
ability to conceive original physics experiments. A strong background in
a technical area such as instrumentation, software, design, or data
analysis is required.
