Abstract:
After a brief introduction describing the quark model picture for 
mesons, I will talk about other possible combinations of quarks, 
anti-quarks and gluons allowed by Quantum Chromodynamics:  multi-quark 
states, "hybrid" mesons, and glueballs.  I will discuss the various 
experimental methods that one might use to search for these interesting 
non-qqbar meson states and go over the evidence for the lowest-lying 
glueball and hybrid meson candidates.
