The GHP Executive Committee is pleased to announce the first call for
nominations for its newly endowed American Physical Society Dissertation
Award in Hadronic Physics. Reaching the endowment milestone was made possible
in part by significant contributions from Brookhaven Science Associates,
Jefferson Science Associates, LLC (the management contractor for Jefferson
Laboratory), and Universities Research Association (the management contractor
for Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory).
The first GHP Dissertation Award will be presented at the April 2013 GHP
Meeting in Denver, Colorado. Nominations should be sent to Ramona Vogt
rlvogt at lbl.gov,
Chair of GHP and Chair of the Dissertation Award Committee,
by October 1, 2012. Other committee members are Mike Leitch (LANL), Jianwei
Qiu (BNL), Wally Melnitchouk (JLab) and Volker Crede (FSU). Contact Ramona for
further information.
If you know of a deserving student who has graduated or will graduate in
the two-year period preceding the nomination deadline, please see
http://www.aps.org/programs/honors/dissertation/hadronic.cfm
for more details about eligibility and the contents of the nomination package.
The student should also be a GHP member at the time of nomination,
it's free for students to join.
The nominations will be evaluated based on: the quality of the written
dissertation (40%), the contribution of the student to the research (30%),
the impact of the work (15%), and the broader involvement of the student in
the community (15%).
