Dear Colleague,

After many months of intensive work by the EIC Science White Paper
Writing Committee, they are now in the final stages of editing the full
document. This White Paper is written with the purpose of informing the
wider nuclear physics community about the future physics opportunities
envisioned for the EIC. While the NSAC Subpanel chaired by Bob Tribble
is focusing their efforts on funding issues of more immediacy for the
U.S. Nuclear Science program, it is still useful to keep them informed
of plans and visions for the longer-term future.

We would like to provide the RHIC/BNL and JLab user communities an
opportunity to comment on the current draft of the EIC White Paper. We
therefore set up websites at BNL and JLab. The link to the JLab site is
below:

This website will give you access to the draft text and windows to
enter comments to the writing committee. Your comments will be
identified with you, through information you will be asked to provide in
the opening window, so will not be anonymous. All comments will be due
by October 31, 2012. There will also be an opportunity to provide
verbal feedback during the Town Meetings scheduled on Oct. 25 for the
Fall DNP meeting in Newport Beach, California. In parallel with editing
the content of the document, the Writing Committee is also working on
producing a "beautified" version, so the desired comments for now should
be focused on content and writing.

The writers will review all submitted comments. Clearly they will not be
able to satisfy all opinions and concerns, but they will try to give all
comments some consideration, particularly if there are misleading or
incorrect statements in the text. Of course, constructive comments that
can be addressed by minor corrections without major rewrites are more
likely to receive action.

On behalf of the writing committee, we would like to thank you all in
advance for your help with this important process. We are hopeful that
this procedure will help them to produce an improved final document in
the next few weeks.

Bob McKeown and Steve Vigdor
